Rachel M. EngebretsonAmerican Immigration Lawyers Association: AILA

Rachel M. Engebretsonbegan her legal career as a legal assistant in 1996.  As a legal assistant, Rachel gained more than a decade of valuable experience in assisting in all areas of the immigration law practice from administrative filings to court-room litigation.  Nowa partner with Binsfeld & Engebretson, obtained her Juris Doctorate cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in May 2008.

Rachel enjoys educating clients about the immigration process and procedures, which can seem daunting.  Rachel works hard to provide exceptional service to her clients and is accessible on evenings and weekends to ensure timely responses to client concerns.

Rachel’s immigration-related practice areas include employment, national interest waivers, family, naturalization, immigration removal proceedings, consular processing, and waivers. Rachel’s practice includes criminal defense work and post-conviction representation where she has had proven success in withdrawing mis-informed guilty pleas.  Rachel particularly enjoys working with young adults seeking deferred action for childhood arrivals, helping families reunite to live lawfully in the United States, and pursuing National Interest Waivers on behalf of individuals who have “advanced degree” or “exceptional ability” in the sciences, arts or business.  In addition, Rachel embraces the challenge of federal court litigation when agency action is adverse to the rights of her clients.

Rachel currently serves as a co-liaison with Immigration & Customs Enforcement on behalf of the Minnesota-Dakota’s AILA Chapter.
